We saw there some of the best restoration we've seen; this is a really old town, with commensurately aging streets, and they're replacing these, gradually, with new roadways that are entirely sympathetic to the old buildings that line them. We decided to "do" the big ring-road around Arezzo on the way back. Turned into it and were instantly assailed by a large number of African prostitutes -- seems this road is now their stamping-ground, and they believe everyone knows it, so they assume that anyone driving there seeks their services (and apparently we didn't look too old to be interested in menages à trois !). How on earth they could all get work was a puzzle; so was trying to work out how any driver who *did* want to, ah ... talk to one of them would make a decision as to which one, for they were of an age, all dressed similarly, and coiffed almost identically. But there, I must be stupid; because we subsequently passed a kind of lay-by off the road and amongst many trees where there were most definitely some drivers with ... friends, so choices had been made ! ;-)

We continued on, up and up and up and up until we kind of ran out of road. Dunno where it had gone; it's definitely there on the map. But I had suddenly become bored with going up and up and up, anyway, amongst trees and more trees; so I voiced my opinion that I wished to go back, and back we went, having to run the gauntlet once more ...

Lotta changing of minds -- a less smooth day for driving. Up here ? down there ? ... What the devil are we doing on this red road ? -- we should be over there on that yellow one. Where did we miss the through-road ?! It'll take too long if we go *that* way ... Ferchrissake ! -- how do we get OFF this road ?! I can't see a turnoff for *miles* ...
