Tuesday 19th March
When it was time to move on, we did so via Acquapendente / San Lorenzo / Castel Giorgio / Orvieto / Amelia / Narni / Calvi / Rocchette / Casperia (our destination).

In Narni we had our second, and equally infuriating, experience of finding nowhere to park the car, so we did the same as we did at Spello and simply left.

It causes Bile, this lack of parking; poisons one's view of a place so that all one can remember is the fact that there was not one single place where one could stop the car, get out and walk away without fear of being booked by passing carabinieri (or any of the other brands of constabulary so abundant in Italy). The local councils should take that into account, Bile, when allocating parking: I don't mean for a moment that they should finger places currently used for other purposes, but all those cops could be policing time-limiting instead of illegally parked vehicles, and that would solve the problem and make 'em some extra money. And make the locals *and us* less grumpy ...
And at Rocchette (not to mention Rocchettine, a kind of teeny extension on a separate hill) we were impressed with the amount of township they'd managed to stick onto the top of a very pointy hill ... Unfortunately, the pic. doesn't give a clear idea of this; you'll just have to believe that Rocchette looks a bit like a bringing-to-life of the "how many angels can fit on the head of a pin ?" story. I don't think I'd want to sleep there for fear of waking up, having a yawn and a stretch and going outside to see what kind of day it was -- and FALLING OFF ...!

I was trying to navigate us to Casperia on white roads: same damned mistake, eh ? -- of course we got lost ! Like I said before, the maps just don't cope with the white roads ... But the really strange part, this time, was that although I did manage to make contact with the map on one occasion (meaning, I was able to locate where we were by the name of a place we went through) and was thus able to predict the next turnoff, we were planning to make that to the left but found a sign pointing to the right and clearly marked "Casperia", and ... we got there ! To this day, I have no idea of what happened; of how we
